C00002 00002		This is to announce my candidacy for the Faculty Senate.  I have

	This is to announce my candidacy for the Faculty Senate.  I have
chosen to advertise instead of asking colleagues to solicit votes.  It
seems more democratic and may be more effective.  My "platform" is that
the Faculty Senate should use its powers and influence to reduce
bureaucracy and administrative costs at Stanford.  Opportunities seem to
exist in computation, in the number of administrative departments and in
the number of rules and the elaboration of procedure.  Stanford should
more actively oppose the imposition of burdensome rules by the Federal
Government and other external bureaucracies.
